Construction is treated as a special area under the French Insurance Code. The legal framework for some compulsory coverages is strictly defined, and failing to take them out can lead to criminal prosecution. That is why construction-related insurance is handled separately.

These policies cover both liability and damage, at every stage of construction — from buying the land and drafting the plans to the end of the ten-year statutory guarantee period after completion of the works.
